Setanta creates down-to-earth music that connects with audiences world-wide. As performers, an integral part of every concert is their lively rapport and fluid interaction with their listeners. The Victory Music Review, hailed them as musicians that "shine with energy." Their obvious joy in performing together, and their genuine affection for the audience, makes each Setanta concert a unique moment in time.
"This traditional band personifies musical range that comes from maturity and playing together over the years."
- Bill Compton, Victory Music Review
"three musicians secure in the tradition and obviously enjoying it."
- John Brophy, Irish Music Magazine
"instrumental fireworks come from Araki. . .negotiating intricate twists and turns with grace."
- Richard Middleton, SingOut! Folk Song Magazine

DALE RUSS
As a fiddler, Dale has been honored repeatedly for the traditional legitimacy
of his music. His absorption and mastery of the grand and spectacular music
of Ireland led him to be invited in 1993 to join the program for "My Love is
in America", a concert/recording of sixteen of the finest Irish fiddle players
in America, under the auspices of Boston College. In 1999 he was honored
again by being invited to teach on the faculty of the prestigious Festival of
American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Washington.
FINN MacGINTY
Finn is a native of County Westmeath, Ireland, and has played many musical
styles before settling on Irish music. His rock roots are still evident in
his fiery style of guitar backup. In 1999 he was also invited to teach his
unique guitar tuning at Fiddle Tunes. Apart from playing with Dale in the
Seattle band the Suffering Gaels, Finn has also performed with fiddler Martin
Hayes and Chicago flute legend Laurence Nugent.
HANZ ARAKI
Hanz is from Seattle and is a sixth-generation shakuhachi flute player, but
it is as a singer and Irish flute player that he is making his name. He has
performed all over the US and Canada with The Paperboys and is currently in
demand as a freelance session musician. Apart from The Paperboys, he has
recorded with the Casey Neil Trio, Annette Ducharme, Japanese folk icon Tomoya
Takaishi and the Suffering Gaels. He has participated in a recording of
ethnic flute music for the Narada label, and released his first solo CD in the
fall of 1999.
