Slack-Key Guitar was developed by the Hawaiian cowboys, known as "Paniolo," in the mid-1800's. Open tunings are featured, allowing the player to provide his own accompaniment on the ringing bass strings while using the high strings to imitate the trademark falsetto of Hawaiian singing.
Michael Bristow, an experienced professional musician, has made a special study of Slack-Key Guitar since first visiting Hawaii in the early nineties. Since then he has returned many times to listen and learn, and has met and played with many great Hawaiian musicians, both known and undiscovered.
