Kelley Johnson

Whether singing a bittersweet ballad or scatting like a veteran instrumentalist, Kelley Johnson invites her audience into her music with a stage presence that is both sassy and intimate. A vocalist of exquisite taste and musicianship, Kelley is a gifted improviser, arranger and lyricist. The Seattle Weekly said "with an engaging voice that's winsome without being sweet, Johnson is the kind of singer you can lose yourself in for an evening". Kelley has performed in clubs, concerts and festivals in Canada, China, and throughout the U.S. Her band features the cream of the Seattle jazz crop. Kelley's communicative and conversational singing style coupled with what Cadence Magazine called "a warmth and a very attractive underlying sexiness", combine to create an exciting and fulfilling show.

Kelley graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in jazz vocal performance and has taught voice, jazz song style, basic jazz theory, piano and improvisation for eleven years. Besides teaching privately, Kelley is adjunct faculty at Cornish College of the Arts, Shoreline Community College and Music Center of the Northwest. Ms. Johnson was awarded "Northwest Vocalist of the Year" for 1998 by Earshot Jazz and the Seattle jazz community.
