You might remember Jo Miller as the founding member and front person for the Seattle-based band Ranch Romance. Known for her consumate performance style and decisive original vocals, she and the band built quite a local name. Joined by Nova Devonie and David Keenan in '91, Ranch Romance went on to become national favorites playing concerts, festivals and dances throughout the United States and Canada. They won several Northwest music awards, and released three CD's which are still available on the Sugar Hill label.
After eight years of life on the road, Ranch Romance said good-bye to their devoted fans and took a well deserved break. Well, break time is over! The long, lonely nights are now at an end and nothing else matters, they're together again.
Jo Miller: Jo grew homesick for being gone, and now that she's back she's a real gone cat. Her musical evolution has moved from bluegrass and western swing to honky-tonk and hillbilly jump. Jo is recognized for writing songs from another era and making vintage gems her own. She accompanies her large vocal sound by smackin' out the rhythm on her mighty Epiphone. Style is her specialty, taste is her trademark, and there is nothing tastier than the Burly sound the Roughnecks lay down. The Burly Roughnecks are:
Nova Devonie: Everybody loves somebody sometime and everybody loves Nova all the time. And why not? Nova is pure joy and delight all rolled up in one big knee-shakin', accordion-quakin' package. She puts the G in groove and the X in squeeze. Her fine vocal harmonies are featured with Jo on several numbers. She has written for and performed in many notable groups including Ranch Romance and the Nyetz. These days, when she's not being a Roughneck, you'll find the multi-talented Nova Devonie under her bolero sombrero playing bass with "The Buckaroosters."
David Keenan: David has certainly earned his moniker, "Twangmaster." His innovative guitar style is widely respected and garners accolades surpassing even the height of his hair. He is also a fine singer, composer and studio session player, as much in demand as he is the man. David can also be heard fronting "The Buckaroosters," a local Buck Owens tribute band, and if you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of David & Nova performing as their altered egos, "Miles & Karina."
Cletus Kaiser: Finishing off the sound of JMBR is Cletus "Knock'em Dead" Kaiser on upright bass. Cletus is the new guy on the block and he's everybody's boyfriend. He's just 21, but he slaps that doghouse bass like he was alive and well in '56, wastin' his time in old Memphis juke joints and staying out way past closing time. Cletus knows of what he speaks, and when he pounds out a solo on those gut strings everybody listens. They'd better - at 6'6", Cletus puts the Burly in Roughneck. He is also featured with "Kevin Campion and his Rhythm Champions."
So, there you have it. They are professionals - 97 years of combined musical experience ensures a good time will be had by all. In their language, JMBR spells F-U-N!
