Jen and Bev, on guitar and mandolin, and their mother Gae, on string bass, form the nucleus of the group. Veteran performers Michael Savatgy on banjo, and Bryan Thurber on fiddle, provide additional instrumental support.
The Dunton Sisters have family roots deep in traditional music. Their grandfather performed in a gospel quartet sponsored by Stamps-Baxter, famous publishers of shape-note hymns. When he moved to Washington State, he brought his music with him, influencing the family for generations to come.
Milton Harkey, organizer of the Bluegrass Showdown talent contests, was so taken with the Dunton Sisters that he immediately hired them for his Bluegrass First Class festival in Asheville, North Carolina. After hearing them sing, the legendary Tony Rice joined them on stage for one of their sets. The Dunton Sisters have also performed at the world famous Station Inn in Nashville.
